more in: Featured, Korean Drama, Korean EntertainmentMBC drama “The Moon that Embraces the Sun” drew in impressive ratings for its first two episodes last week even without its main leads. The drama wowed viewers with an intriguing plot and strong performances by its child actors, raising fans’ expectations.

Originally, the lead actors – Kim Soo Hyun, Han Ga In, and Jung Il Woo – were scripted to make their first appearance in the seventh episode. However, it’s been announced that producers have rewritten the script to allow the main actors to appear an episode earlier (episode six).
“The Moon that Embraces the Sun” is a fantasy historical drama (sageuk) set in the Joseon Dynasty. King Lee Hwon (Kim Soo Hyun) and his half-brother Prince Yang Myung (Jung Il Woo) fall for the same girl, a shaman named Wol (Han Ga In). Wol, whose real name is Yeon Woo, was the Crowned Princess, betrothed to the Crowned Prince Lee Hwon. She was plotted against and “executed” by those who were both jealous and fearful of her beauty and wits as a young girl.
The fantasy historical sageuk drew in 18% and 19.9% on Wednesday and Thursday night respectively (data from AGB Nielsen). Gu Hye Sun’s “Please Take Care of the Captain” brought in 9.2% and 10.5%, while Lee Dong Wook’s “Wild Romance” fell behind with 7.% and 6.7%. “The Moon that Embraces the Sun” is written by Jung Eun Gwol, who also wrote “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.”
