The group Girls Generation held a showcase to announce their debut in Japan, and attracted the eyes of people in the music industry and their fans.
Their agency, SM Entertainment, delivered the news on August 25 that Girls Generation performed showcases three times at Ariake Colosseum on August 25, and drew a total of 20,000 audience members consisting of their Japanese fans and around 1,000 reporters and staff members from the broadcasting and media industry, including people in broadcasting, newspapers, advertisements, and magazines, showing their high interest in Girls Generation.
During the showcases filled with the waves of the pink luminous cheering tools which symbolize Girls Generation, Girls Generation presented their hit Korean songs such as “GENIE,” which will be released as the first debut single album in Japan through their Japanese agency, Universal Music, on September 8, “Oh,” ”Run Devil Run,” ”Into the New World,” and “Gee.” And they also unveiled their music video of the song “GENIE” sung in Japanese for the first time.
After the showcases, members of Girls Generation expressed their feelings by saying, “We were surprised to see so many audience members even in a situation where we have not yet debuted in Japan. We had been very nervous since it was our first performance in Japan, but we tried our best as we had prepared so hard for these showcases so far. We have high anticipation about future activities in Japan.”
The showcases were attended by many people from almost every Japanese media and music industry such as Fuji TV, NHK, TV Asahi, Nihon TV, TBS, Yomiuri, Asahi, Sankei Sports, Chunichi Sports, Oricon, and HMV. In addition, as many people had tried to book tickets, the seats on both sides of the stage, which audiences rarely use, were also filled, so additional screens were installed for those audience members sitting on the edge.
The department head of Universal Music Japan, Nayuta Wave, Takase, said, “Eighty percent of the audience members were females in their teens and twenties. Those young women are actually dominating the Japanese music industry and their interest shown in Girls Generation is not considered just a trend of the boom of K-POP. I could see the possibility that Girls Generation could establish a firm position in the Japanese music market simply with the attractiveness of individual members.”
A Japanese fan named Ami said, “Girls Generation has outstanding singing and dancing ability. As every member has a stylish and cute appearance, they actually make me tempted to imitate their style. I will definitely attend every performance of Girls Generation held in Japan in the future.”
